| Sažetak: | (from the preface) The motivation for writing this textbook, like the incentive for writing so many others, was dissatisfaction with current texts in the area--in this case, the psychology of human thought. Both editors of this volume have taught undergraduate courses on thinking and related topics, and both have been unhappy with the available options. The books have never seemed up-to-date, or comprehensive with respect to the topics we wished to cover, or sufficiently free of the ax grinding that inevitably accompanies a textbook based on any one point of view, nor were they written in such a way as to evoke an enthusiastic response from undergraduates. We therefore decided to try our own hands at constructing a textbook on thinking. All the areas of thinking that we believe worthy of inclusion in an introductory undergraduate (or graduate) course on the topic have been represented. Although the book is intended to be an introductory text in thinking at the undergraduate or graduate level, broadly defined it can also be used in courses that are more narrowly focused, for example: reasoning, problem solving, thought and judgment, and decision making. Of course, not all courses on the psychology of human thought go by this name, and the book is eminently suitable for courses covering the same content but having a different name, such as "complex processes" or "higher processes." Moreover, teachers of cognate courses might wish to use the book as a supplementary text. For example, the book would be effective in courses on cognitive psychology, conceptual processes, or human information processing. |
